Why you need to be flexible on the inside for optimal health.
For years, we have relied on external measures such as BMI and weight to determine if someone is healthy. However, this only tells half the story and isn't useful at helping individuals manage their weight and health. It also meant we have had a one-size fits-all approach to diet and exercise. Recent technology is now allowing us to understand what is happening at a cellular level. With this knowledge, we can determine what fuels and exercise routines work best for individuals to optimise their metabolic health, weight, mental and physical performance and long-term health.
Nicola and David will explain why it's important to understand how the food you eat and the activities you do determine your metabolic flexibility.
In this session, you will learn:
- What metabolic flexibility is and why it is important to your health
- Clues that you might not be burning fat for energy
- How you can manage your hunger and stop constantly thinking about food
- What exercise improves your metabolism and what can mess it up
- Why some foods switch off your ability to burn fat
- How changes to your diet can improve your concentration and focus.
About the Speakers:
David Beard AFAIM, Physiologist and Performance Specialist
David is an Exercise Physiologist with over 35 years' experience. He spent the last three decades helping individuals optimise their health and live long healthy lives. As well as providing health education sessions and coaching programs for companies and individuals, he is now running a metabolic health clinic in Nedlands.
Dr Nicola Lowth, Accredited Practicing Dietitian & Sports Dietitian
Nicola is passionate about using a whole food approach to help people achieve their health, wellness and performance goals.
Over the past 5 years Nicola and David have been helping WA company, METS, develop the technology and programs to measure metabolism and apply it to weight management, metabolic health and performance.
