“How Data Science is driving a digital transformation at Woodside”?

Woodside has built a Data Science capability in the last three years that has grown from a small internal function to become the driving force behind the company’s digital strategy. Like any large business, Woodside's success depends on the quality and timeliness of its decision making. The company's aspiration is to have data-driven insights at its fingertips so they are always making better decisions. Woodside's track record in this decision-making process through their Data Science program is world-class in the Oil and Gas industry.

During their journey, Woodside has learnt what it takes to successfully drive digital change in a large and well established business. This can be distilled into three simple principles:
(1) solve business-led problems
(2) develop a clear vision and roadmap that has strong executive support
(3) minimise the cost of experimentation

In his address, Dr Ridsdill-Smith will illustrate how Woodside have used these principles in practice throughout their cognitive computing and analytics programs, providing valuable lessons for all.
