Although solar power generation has its place in the scheme of renewable options the main problem remains that it is not economic as a replacement for base load power requirements. I believe that the argument for renewable energy sources should not be one where we prevaricate over which is a better technology or can be more easily funded or even which may be more attractive to the general public. We should have a more pragmatic approach that puts forward the case that there is a wide variety of renewable options available and in reality a mix of renewables based on factors such as geographic location, social requirement, economic resources and environmental necessity is required. If we narrow our scope of approach to renewables too much it is unlikely we will create the political or national will to make the hard decisions in the immediate future.
