Voters aren’t buying ‘Team Australia’

Your article sums up the situation perfectly; unfortunately it cannot provide answers or guidance for what now appears to be a liberal government without credibility , without any positive future plans for the economy and furthermore a failure to recognise the position as it is. I know this comment would sound like a laborite's response but in fact I have been a liberal supporter for many decades. What have we got to lose by giving Malcolm a go?

South Perth
Ronald, You ask - "What have we got to love by giving Malcolm a go?" Apart from the fact that he has already had a go - and blew it - there's the problem that the Liberal Party would come close to imploding because there would be a walk-out of many thousands of rank and file members should he gain the leadership. Malcolm is seen by those who would opt to resign as someone who could quite easily have been in the ALP. Reports back in the late 90s actually claimed he'd approached the likes of Bob Hawke and Kim Beazley in search of a safe Labor seats. When he was knocked back he returned to the Liberals Party. I doubt that this has not been conveyed to Liberal MPs by their most senior branch members. Having Malcolm in the leadership is therefore a grave risk, one that such MPs understandably would not wish to take. Rather than seeking the leadership Malcolm should set about making a real contribution to the governance of Australia in what promise to be far tougher times than when he entered Parliament. There are thousands of Australians who would like to have his super-safe Sydney seat. He should recognise this and get on with the job at hand.
