Hitting the mark

I am a big fan of the ABC series Utopia. It has really grabbed some wonderful threads that just keep on giving, producing an inexhaustible supply of humorous outcomes.

The biggest theme, naturally, is the ridiculousness of government infrastructure pronouncements; the constant searching for flavour-of-the-month projects to make a splash on the news, whether or not they are destined to ever happen.

The other thread I enjoy is the nonsensical organisational management fads that overtake the office or particular individuals, causing more trouble and distraction than any possible benefit that might come from them.

Watching as experienced managers wanting to get something done are dragged back by politically correct policies or overwhelmed by silly team building efforts that take staff away from meaningful work is such an excellent critique of the way bureaucracy works.
