Work starts on Freo apartments, Beechboro shops

Work has begun on a Fremantle apartments project that promises to enliven the port city’s east end, while a $6.8 million redevelopment of Beechboro’s Altone Park Shopping Centre has also kicked off.

Yolk Property Group has appointed Icon Construction to build its Little Lane apartments in Fremantle, located at 52 Adelaide Street, otherwise known as the Westgate Mall.

The Little Lane project will comprise 70 apartments and a new cafe and hospitality precinct, utilising the laneways of the Westgate Mall.

Demolition works are under way, with construction expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2021, Yolk Property Group director Pete Adams said.

“We chose Icon for their experienced and well-respected local staff, their proven longevity having been in operation for 158 years and their proud association as part of Kajima Corporation - an $11 billion Japanese construction powerhouse,” he said.

“Designed by Harris Jenkins Architects, the apartments make the most of natural light and include impressive sustainability and energy saving features that make it easier and more affordable for people to live in a way that makes smarter use of the earth’s resources.

“With extensive use of rooftop solar panels and a guarantee from an independent energy supplier, residents will be rewarded with a discounted rate of 10 per cent less than Synergy’s A1 Home electricity rates.”

Meanwhile, construction firm Pindan has started work on redeveloping Altone Park Shopping Centre in Beechboro.

Pindan business development manager James Allingame said the revamped centre would feature a new Aldi supermarket and a range of specialty retailers.

Altone Park is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

“We are thrilled to be part of this exciting upgrade at Altone Park Shopping Centre and to be working with Hames Sharley once again,” Mr Allingame said.
