Wood Group wins more Prelude work

Engineering firm Wood Group has continued its run of contract wins in the offshore oil and gas sector, with the latest contract being for Shell’s Prelude floating LNG project.

UK-based Wood Group said in a statement that its local subsidiary, Wood Group Kenny Australia, would provide specialist consultancy services for flexible riser integrity management prior to and during the operation of Prelude.

The contract is for three years.

“The focus of the contract will be the development and implementation of the flexible riser integrity management plan, as well as inspection, monitoring, testing and on-call engineering support,” the company said.

Wood Group previously designed the subsea flowlines for Prelude.

Wood Group Kenny chief executive Bob MacDonald said the flexible risers were a safety critical component of the subsea system.

“We look forward to working with Shell and applying our specialist expertise to the project, which has specific challenges given the cyclonic conditions; making integrity even more pertinent,” Mr MacDonald said.

“We will service this contract using entirely local expertise from our Perth office.”

As well as the Prelude work, Wood Group Kenny has secured three contracts with Woodside Petroleum and Shell for engineering and design work on the Browse FLNG project.

In addition, Wood Group recently won a multi-year contract with ConocoPhillips in Australia.

Subsidiary Wood Group PSN will deliver brownfield engineering services to the Bayu-Undan field located south west of Timor-Leste and the Darwin LNG plant, with contract personnel based n Perth and Dili.

The contract also covers associated floating, storage and offloading facilities and subsea pipelines, with a Wood Group Kenny team in Perth to supply subsea engineering expertise.

In December, Shell also awarded Wood Group Kenny its third front-end engineering and design contract for the Woodside Petroleum-operated Browse LNG project in the North West Shelf.
