Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA chief executive Deidre Willmott has been chosen to join the board of Australia Post, following the recruitment of Blackmores boss Christine Holgate as CEO yesterday.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann announced Ms Willmott’s appointment as a part-time non-executive director of Australia Post alongside Paul Scurrah, who will serve in the same role, and Holly Kramer, who has been appointed deputy chair.

The three appointees will serve three-year terms.

“These appointments fill the board, and ensure it has a broad range of skills and expertise to steer the organisation during a critical period,” Senator Cormann said.

“These appointments will significantly improve the gender and geographic diversity of the board.

“Five of the nine directors will be female, the first time that Australia Post’s board will be majority female.”

Ms Willmott will add the new position to her existing roles, including chair of St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls, director for the Kimberley Foundation of Australia, and state advisory council member for the Committee for Economic Development of Australia.

She is also a former chief of staff to Liberal premiers of Western Australia, Richard Court and Colin Barnett, between 2008 and 2010.

Yesterday, Ms Holgate was announced as Aust Post’s next chief executive, replacing Ahmed Fahour from September.
