WestStar Industrial has won a $4.5 million contract with Rio Tinto for works at the Cape Lambert port facility, taking the local contractor’s order book to $30 million.

Under the contract, WestStar subsidiary SIMPEC will design and construct a remote draft survey system to increase ship turnaround and safety.

Work is due to commence this month, with completion expected in the second quarter of 2019.

SIMPEC managing director Mark Dimasi said the award was a testament to the company’s capabilities.

“What a commendable achievement to secure a project directly with Rio Tinto, a global tier-one company,” he said.

“This is beginning of an exciting new journey with Rio Tinto.”

The news comes after WestStar secured its largest ever contract last week, announcing an $8 million contract for construction work at Tianqi Lithium’s Kwinana processing plant.

WestStar director Philip Re praised the recent boost to the company’s order book.

“To deliver an order book of $30 million only half way through the year is a tremendous result for SIMPEC and whole WestStar group,” he said.

“SIMPEC is building great momentum and traction in the market and we look forward to the award of further contracts.”

Shares in WestStar were flat at 1.5 cents each at 12.20pm AEDT today.
