The Water Corporation has announced that the Southern SeaWater Alliance is the preferred choice to build and operate Western Australia's second seawater desalination plant near Binningup in the south west.
SSWA comprises Spanish companies Tecnicas Reunidas and Valoriza Agua partnering with construction firm AJ Lucas and engineering consultancy Worley Parsons.
The cost of the plant would be about $955 million and would be constructed in stages commencing in 2009 and would be operational by 2011.
The two Spanish companies will operate the 50 gigalitres of water a year plant, which will be owned by the Water Corporation, for 25 years.
