This growth is completely unsustainable. We are exploiting non-renewable resources at an exponential rate. The iron ore and natural gas we extract will not regenerate. In 50 years time, will our great grandchildren thank us for what we are doing to Australia?

When do you think the ore and gas will run out Peter? Existing proven reserves are due to last several decades yet, according to the companies which are literally banking their futures on it. That doesn't include implied reserves which are yet to be fully surveyed and confirmed - or reserved which are as yet undiscovered. Australia is a big place and believe it or not, it has not been fully explored from a minerals point of view. In any case, are you suggesting we just leave this stuff in the ground? Given the present state of rest of the country (never mind the rest of the world), that would be really sustainable from an economic point of view. Not!

I love the luddite view of the world. We'll all be ruined when the world's supply of everything runs out. This line of mumbo jumbo has been spun forever.
