Veris tops Rising Stars

Wednesday, 27 June, 2018 - 19:59

Perth-based ASX-listed company Veris outshone a quality field to be named the overall winner at the 2018 Business News Rising Stars awards held last night.

Established in 2003 as contractor Ocean to Outback Electrical, Veris has been particularly industrious during the past four years, making nine acquisitions, undertaking a rebrand and diversifying its offerings into surveying, professional advisory and geospatial services.

This transformation appears to be paying off, with Veris’s revenue up 47 per cent to $46 million in its half-year results to December 2017.

Veris also won the Rising Stars large business and professional services categories.

Now in their 15th year, the Rising Stars awards recognise the achievements of the state’s fastest growing private companies.

Entrants were judged across a number of criteria, including revenue, staff growth, not-for-profit involvement, and diversity.

Organisations also needed to present a solid growth strategy to become a Rising Stars finalist.

Other businesses shortlisted for the top prize this year were co-working incubator Spacecubed and software company Docmosis

The remaining category winners were: social enterprise Greenbatch, which converts plastic into 3D printer filament; crane rental agency Cranecorp Australia; design firm SPH architecture + interiors; the Wanneroo Basketball Association; Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation; and Vanguard Performing Arts, which also received the 2018 People’s Choice Award.

The first winner of Rising Stars in 2003 was advertising agency Gatecrasher, while past winners have included IT groups Datacom and Empired, as well as engineering firm Calibre Global.

Wearable technologies company Nuheara was named the overall winner for 2017.

You can read more about Veris and the other winners’ stories online this afternoon and in our next print edition that comes out Monday July 2.
