Techboard has named Velpic as its top trending company this fortnight, with the eLearning platform undertaking a capital raising and signing its first sporting and hospitality client.

The software company is hoping to raise $5.85 million through a rights issue, and will also be providing an induction solution to the Canterbury League Club, the official club for the Bulldogs Sydney NRL team.

The company attracted strong press coverage and social media engagement.

"Velpic is delighted to feature in Techboard's latest startup ranking,” Velpic chief executive Russell Francis said.

"At Velpic we have been extraordinarily busy of late launching Version 3.0, commencing our second capital raising, and expanding internationally, so it's nice to see some external validation of our efforts and the outstanding progress that Velpic has been achieving.

“The global learning management system market place is growing by 22 per cent per year and will be worth over $11 billion by 2020 and Velpic has a global first mover advantage in this exciting market place."

Shark Mitigation Systems retained its second position in the ranking, in particular following its signing of professional surfer Taj Burrow as an ambassador.

Financial services security provider BankVault won the fintech category of the 2016 World Cup Tech Challenge in Silicon Valley, making it the top ranked unlisted company this fortnight.

The startup also picked up two nominations from Techboard’s Panel of Experts.

“BankVault is a revolutionary product that stops bank hackers. It secures online transactions by creating invisible endpoint devices that bypass hackers. Your endpoint device is now secure, anonymous and untraceable," BankVault CEO Graeme Speak said.

BankVault’s recent success at the World Tech Cup Challenge is attracting a lot of attention to the FinTech startup.

“We're delighted that BankVault has won the World Cup Tech Challenge. Winning has exposed us to a global audience,” he said.

Last fortnight’s top startup Rhinohide remains in the top five, with on-going mindshare presence following its appearance on Shark Tank last month.

Intelligent hearing device maker Nuheara also remains in Techboard’s top five, with strong local news coverage and an announcement it had engaged Flextronics to manufacture its crowd-funded device.

Other top ten trending companies include telecom company Trident Subsea Cable, which is aiming to raise close to $100 million to finance its fibre-optic cable linking Perth to South-East Asia, and Startup Weekend alumni veri.vote which picked up local and international press coverage.
