There was growing speculation last night that the gas explosion that is crippling WA industry could have been prevented, with revelations that an inspection of the plant by the national safety watchdog made key recommendations about the way it was managed.

Perth junior Cazaly Resources, which rose to prominence in its failed battle to wrest the rich Shovelanna iron ore deposit off Rio Tinto, has taken its giant rival to court in a daring attempt to snatch ownership of the Rhodes Ridge prospect in the Central Pilbara.

Subiaco-based Comdek has enlisted WA coal veteran Paul Jury to help it make the jump from coal explorer to producer as it plans an aggressive drilling program and capital raising to cash in on record prices.
