ABS data released this week portrays dwelling commencements continuing to trend lower since peaking in March 2015.
With WA recording its highest levels of dwelling approvals and commencements up until the early part of last year, this had naturally flowed through to high levels of dwellings under construction.
According to the latest data from the ABS, there were 21,991 dwellings under construction across WA in the December 2015 quarter.
This latest figure is now approximately 18 per cent below the highest peak of 26,741 experienced in March last year.
The current level of houses under construction in the latest data is down for the fourth consecutive quarter.
However, multi-residential construction continues to remain at fairly elevated levels with the latest figure of 9,014 dwellings similar in comparison to the previous quarter.
