The West's upwardly mobile bogan

Could the elevation of the word ‘bogan’ to the highest levels of Australia’s government be yet another sign of Western Australia’s growing influence in the nation?

I grew up in Melbourne in the 80s and early 90s where the word bogan was used in every second sentence. Sorry mate nice try but you did succeed in wasting 3 minutes of my day.

Delighted to read this article. I can confirm the 1970's date. I drove through northern NSW in 1979 along Highway No 1 and was amused to discover there is a Bogan River in northern NSW. I thought this was particularly amusing because of all the bogans I had come across in that state at the time.
