Perth artist Leon Pericles will tomorrow launch a major art exhibition of more than 400 works at Linton & Kay Galleries in West Perth, which will run until November 23.

Leon Pericles: Just Scratching the Surface will include Mr Pericles’ full catalogue of etchings, as well as the prints, paintings, collages and sculptures that he believes have defined his 50-year career.

The works feature curios that have been found or fashioned in the artist’s East Perth workshop.

“My works are as much about the story-telling process and taking the audience on a journey as they are the art,” Mr Pericles told Business News.

His works feature in public and private collections locally and overseas.

Satirical pieces are paired with Mr Pericles’ trademark, more whimsical works, creating a style that can range from abstract to realism.

Linton & Kay Galleries director Gary Kay said Mr Pericles’ innate ability to capture the essence of life in Australia, through the lens of his imaginary town of Widjimorphup, has given him the staying power to sustain a successful career.

“Pericles’ aptitude for telling incredible tales across such a broad spectrum of mediums for so many years has cemented him as an absolute icon in the Australian art world,” Mr Kay said.
