St George Mining is looking to extend its recent run of exploration success with the restart of drilling at the Windsor X3 conductor within its 100%-owned East Laverton project in WA.
Drilling was suspended last month at 40 metres because of an issue with the rig, which had to be taken back to the depot for servicing but has now returned to resume the hole.
Windsor X3 is a bedrock electromagnetic conductor measuring 320 metres by 200 metres and represents a compelling drill target because of strong conductivity. Significantly, the conductor is coincident with a magnetic feature and the edge of a gravity high, all of which adds to the prospectivity of the target.
Previous drilling near Windsor X3 intersected 30 metres at 0.31% nickel from 108 metres, including 2 metres at 0.62% nickel from 132 metres.
St George Mining Executive Chairman, John Prineas, said: “We are very pleased that drilling of the Windsor X3 conductor has recommenced quickly in the New Year. Previous drilling in this area has intersected thick sequences of ultramafic rocks with widespread magmatic nickel sulphides, indicating potential for significant nickel sulphide mineralisation. Windsor X3 is located in a structural and geological position that is favourable for massive nickel sulphides, adding to the strong prospectivity of this target.”
East Laverton produced some high tenor nickel hits for BHP, however in typical big company fashion, the big Australian just moved on to the next project leaving plenty os scraps on the table for St George to exploit.
A four-hole drill program has already produced encouraging results. St George reported last month the first two holes of a four-hole program had successfully intersected up to 107 metres of prospective ultramafic rocks at the Windsor X2 conductor.
The company rates the Windsor X3 conductor as an even better target that X2 and the market will be watching closely to see whether St George can continue its stellar run of success with the drill bit.
