It was a big weekend on the national stage for Western Australia's building sector, with several of the state's top names recognised at the Master Builders Australia National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards, held in Hobart.

Principal among them was Rob Spadaccini, the founder and director of Spadaccini Homes, who was named the 2017 national residential master builder of the year.

The high-end residential builder also won the award for national luxury project home over $2 million for his work on a Watermans Bay home.

The annual awards recognise and celebrate the nation’s best builders, their teams and projects across the residential, commercial and civil construction sectors.

Master Builders Association WA executive director Michael McLean said Mr Spadaccini's attention to detail and quality of workmanship, as demonstrated by all the specialist trades used by Spadaccini Homes, had achieved the deserving success at a national level.

Earlier this year, Mr Spadaccini also won the Australian home of the year trophy for a Sorrento residence at the HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards.

“This is the first time that any builder has won both the Master Builders and HIA top national home in the same year for two different homes, a record which is unlikely to be rivalled,” Mr McLean said.

“Having inspected this home myself, I was not surprised that our six judges rated it a standout winner amongst some amazing entries.

“It is a credit to the quality of WA builders and our tradies that WA has won the top home award at a national level for the past two years, which is a remarkable achievement.”

WA luxury builder Adrian Zorzi was last year’s recipient of the award.

Mr Spadaccini said receiving the top honour was humbling.

"There's an old saying; 'you're only as good as your trades'... and without my team I wouldn't have been able to do this," he said.

Boutique building company Element Builders was another WA builder recognised in Hobart for its construction quality, awarded the national project home $500,000 to $1 million prize for its Woodridge home.

Other projects in WA recognised for their construction quality were: Commercial Aquatics Australia, national specialist contractor of the year for its precision applied to the swimming pools at Crown Towers; PACT Construction, which won the national commercial/industrial construction award ($20 million to $50 million) for its efforts on commercial office St Georges Chambers - Church House; and Ultimo Design & Construction, which received the national commercial/industrial construction award for the under $5 million category for The Guildford Hotel. redevelopment.

“WA builders did extremely well at the Master Builders National Awards this year, where competition for success is fierce and hard to come by,” Mr McLean said.

“It was great to see PACT and Ultimo Design & Construction rewarded at a national level for the first time for their magnificent reconstruction work on two iconic projects. Their exquisite skills in completing two very challenging projects are a credit to their construction teams and management.

“Commercial Aquatics topped off a memorable night for WA by winning the keenly sought after specialist contractor of the year award for its extraordinary work on Crown Towers’ pools.”
