Fini Group lodges DA for Murdoch medical precinct

Fini Group has lodged a development application to build a new $200 million medical and commercial precinct at Murdoch, highlighted by the state's first medihotel, but the project is at least a year behind its original schedule.

Health Minister Roger Cook today said the 60-bed hotel was likely to open in 2022, as part of the Fini Group-led Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct adjacent to Fiona Stanley Hospital.

Fini Group had announced its intentions to build the medihotel in 2017, partnering with Aegis Aged Care and the WA Department of Health, and had ambitions of opening the facility by next year.

Under the DA lodged with the City of Melville, the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct will also comprise commercial office space, aged care facilities and medical suites, across five buildings. 

Those buildings comprise a nine-storey aged care facility, a 13-storey hotel and residential building, a six-storey retail and office building, a six-storey retail, office, consulting, medical centre and childcare building, and a 10-storey medihotel and mental health building with urgent care and GP clinics.

Fini Group’s Kyle Jeavons said a tender process to select a builder was under way, with a significant level of private and public sector investment in the project secured to date. 

“Developments of this scale and diversity will greatly support the recovery of the Western Australian economy through and post COVID-19,” he said.

Mr Cook said the new model of care and collaboration between key health providers was developed by leading health experts and put WA in a unique position.

"I expect this medihotel, and this broader health precinct, will help set a new benchmark for the way sub-acute care is delivered in this country, by providing a greater range of services to match individual patient needs," he said.
