Sheffield Resources has signed a 20-year access agreement with the Port of Derby, allowing the company to export from its planned Thunderbird mineral sands project, located on the Dampier Peninsula.

Sheffield is targeting first production at its project in 2020.

Managing director Bruce McFadzean said the deal agreement was a key milestone for the company.

“We welcome the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley and the WA Department of Transport’s support in facilitating this agreement, which will enable the transhipment of our bulk commodity products from Thunderbird," he said.

“The port facility will provide employment and contract opportunities for the people of Derby as we move Thunderbird toward construction and into production.”

Sheffield plans to export its mineral sands bulk products including LTR ilmenite, zircon concentrate and titano-magnetite from its Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project through the Port of Derby.

Shares in Sheffield finished off 1.1 per cent at 8.8 cents each.
