SCEE, Tempo lock in $26m of contracts

Southern Cross Electrical Engineering has been awarded a $20 million contract for work on the central section of the Northlink WA roads project, while Perth-based Tempo Australia has secured a series of contracts totalling more than $6 million.

Great Northern Connect, a joint venture between Laing O’Rourke and BGC Contracting, has appointed SCEE to install the electrical and intelligent transport systems.

Managing director Graeme Dunn said the company was pleased to have secured the work.

“I am pleased to announce this award, which increases the presence of SCEE in the transport infrastructure sector,” he said

“This is a significant target for growth for us as part of our strategy of diversification for the group.

“We look forward to working with Great Northern Connect and Main Roads Western Australia on the successful completion of NorthLink WA Central Section.”

Shares in SCEE finished up 5.8 per cent at 82 cents each.

Meanwhile, Tempo has announced a number of new construction contracts, including upgrading the security system for Woodside’s Pluto gas plant in Karratha.

Other projects include shutdown support service for BHP and Santos, and installation work for Telstra and Optus in Queensland.

Tempo managing director Max Bergomi said the new work represented a positive start to 2018.

“Tempo Australia has been actively involved in a tendering phase while markets have been in a state of delay, and we’re optimistic that these recent wins are a sign of what’s to come in 2018,” he said.

Shares in Tempo were flat at 23 cents each at the close.
