RCR’s scope of work under the contract includes overall project management, construction, and commissioning of the 80-megawatt electrical open-cycle power plant at the Cape Lambert port facility for Rio, with work to begin immediately.
Rio will handle the design and procurement of major equipment items for the power station.
“The Cape Lambert project is the first win of an improving pipeline of opportunities that we are seeing in the power generation sector,” RCR managing director Paul Dalgleish said.
“We are currently preferred on a number of other large power projects, including gas and solar power stations that are under negotiation.
“We are pleased to continue our valued relationship with Rio through this project.”
RCR also announced today that it had been awarded a $73 million contract for the construction of a processing plant at MMG’s Dugald River zinc project in Queensland.
“Pleasingly, these awards follow our recent announcement of $130 million in new contracts and further boosts our order book for FY17,” Mr Dalgleish said.
RCR shares were 1.8 per cent higher to $1.51 each at 10am.
