Perth-based John Poynton has been appointed as a non-executive director of Crown Resorts, replacing billionaire James Packer.

Mr Poynton was nominated by Consolidated Press Holdings to fill the vacancy and currently serves as a director of Crown’s Perth subsidiary, Burswood Limited.

He is currently chairman of Jindalee Partners, Strike Energy and SC8, and is a director of ECU’s Security Research Institute Advisory Board.

Crown executive chairman John Alexander said the company was delighted by the appointment.

“John is an experienced director having previously served as chairman, deputy chairman and non-executive director of a number of ASX-listed companies, federal government boards and education institutions. He will make an excellent addition to the Crown board,” he said.

Shares in Crown finished up 1.6 per cent at $13.20.
