Pilbara Minerals has signed-off four major contracts for its Pilgangoora lithium project, with RCR Tomlinson, NRW Holdings, Action Industrial Catering and the Njamal traditional owners winning the lion’s share of the work.

Pilbara has awarded a final engineering, procurement and construction contract to RCR for the construction of the 2 million tonnes per annum processing plant at Pilgangoora.

The contract was valued at $148 million.

NRW Holdings received the bulk civil earthworks construction contract, with work already under way at the site.

Pilbara is also working with the traditional owners in the Pilbara, with a camp services contract awarded to a joint venture between Njamal Services and Action Industrial Catering.

Pilbara Resource Group and Njamal Services also jointly received a contract for the expansion of the mine camp.

“Following the final investment decision, we are now getting on with the job of delivering this world-class project as rapidly as possible, ensuring we can move quickly to deliver into the burgeoning lithium raw material demand growth we see from our existing customers and others, downstream in the lithium-ion battery supply chain,” Pilbara managing director Ken Brinsden said.

“We are also very pleased with the co-operative relationships that have emerged between the Njamal Group and contract service providers at Pilgangoora, which has opened up significant opportunities for indigenous engagement and employment as part of the project’s construction and ongoing operations.

“In concert with Njamal, we will continue to explore all opportunities for participation given the benefits that can yield for the group in business, employment and training over the very long mine-life at Pilgangoora.”

The Pilgangoora project is expected to be commissioned by March next year.
