Telethon Speech & Hearing has appointed Tim Cooney and Jeremy Rigg to its board. Dr  Cooney is an ear, nose and throat surgeon who practises at Princess Margaret Hospital and St John of God Subiaco. Mr  Rigg is general counsel and an associate director of the University of Western Australia.

Women’s refuge and support services organisation, the Patricia Giles Centre, has appointed Sue van Leeuwen chair. Dr  van Leeuwen is currently a director of the Midwest Port Authority. She was chief executive of Leadership WA from 2007 to 2016 and has held previous board roles with Community Leadership Australia, St John’s Ambulance, and Amana Living.

Pitcher Partners has appointed Joanne Palmer executive director, audit and assurance. Ms  Palmer spent 19 years with EY, the last seven years of which were as a partner in its mining and metals practice. She has served as a director of Perth Symphony Orchestra since 2014.

The Lions Eye Institute has appointed Richard Alder to its board. Mr  Alder will also serve as chair of the LEI investment committee. Mr  Alder was managing partner in the Perth office of JB Were & Son for 16 years, until his retirement in 2003. He served as a director of Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) from 2007 to 2016, and was a director of GESB.

Anglicare WA has appointed Kate Chaney director, innovation and strategy. Ms  Chaney has most recently worked as an innovation and strategy consultant, following a stint as a principal at The Boston Consulting Group. She was with Wesfarmers from 2009 to 2015 in a variety of management roles in sustainability, community partnerships, emerging ventures and aboriginal affairs.

Wines of Western Australia has appointed Trevor Whittington chair. Mr  Whittington was chief of staff for former agriculture and food minister Ken Baston from 2013 to 2016, following four years as chief of staff to then mines, petroleum and fisheries minister Norman Moore.

The Western Australian Law Society has elected Hayley Cormann president for the 2018 term. Ms  Cormann is a senior associate at Clayton Utz, where she has worked since 2006. Currently senior vice president of the society, Ms  Cormann has served on its council since 2011. She practises in commercial litigation, focusing on medical negligence and disciplinary proceedings.

Murfett Legal has appointed Mike Frampton principal, tax, commercial, and estate planning. In this role, he will head up the firm’s commercial practice. Mr  Frampton has served as a partner, tax at both Norton Rose Fulbright and Clayton Utz.

The Australian Institute of Company Directors has appointed Fiona Payne and Andrew Thompson to its WA division council. Ms  Payne is currently chair of Therapy Focus and 360 Health + Community. She is the co-lead of the Department of Health’s Disability Health Network. Mr  Thompson is a consultant at, and former partner of, MinterEllison. He was a former chair of AustralianSuper, and a former president of CCIWA.

Oceans Group, part of the Harrier Human Capital group, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jock Murray as Strategic Advisor for the growth of executive search engagements within the infrastructure, transport, engineering and construction markets. Previously the Director-General for NSW Department of Transport, Mr  Murray led the state's transport, infrastructure and services production plan and chaired the $2 billion Parramatta Rail Link Company project.

Perth-based mining and corporate governance specialist Mark Donovan has been appointed to the board of Brisbane-based Qteq Pty Ltd as a non-executive director. Mr  Donovan has 22 years’ experience in the minerals industry and, before then, worked for more than 10 years as a lawyer and partner in a Perth legal firm where he specialised in criminal and commercial litigation. After moving into the minerals field, Mr  Donovan held senior legal and managerial roles with WMC Resources and BHP Billiton, most recently as its head of corporate affairs for BHP Billiton’s Western Australian Iron Ore operations.
