Business school heads

The University of Notre Dame Australia and Curtin University have appointed new heads of their respective business schools.

Curtin has appointed Nigel de Bussy pro vice-chancellor, Curtin Business School. Professor  de Bussy had been acting in the role since March, when Tony Travaglione left Curtin to take the reins of the faculty of business and law at the University of Newcastle. Professor  de Bussy has worked at Curtin since 1994, and previously headed the university’s school of marketing. Before he joined the university, Professor  de Bussy spent more than a decade in public relations in the UK and Australia.

Notre Dame has recruited Werner Soontiens, who was previously dean of students, faculty of humanities at Curtin, to become dean of its school of business. Professor  Soontiens joined Curtin from Technikon Pretoria in 2000. He has held a variety of roles including director of Curtin’s MBA program, dean international for Curtin Business School, and head, school of management.

Kelly to KPMG indigenous team

KPMG has appointed Glen Kelly as a director of KPMG Arrilla Indigenous Services. Mr  Kelly was most recently chief executive of the National Native Title Council, after nine years as chief executive of the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council. A Nyoongar man, Mr  Kelly is a director of Reconciliation Australia and sits on the Murdoch University senate.

Buitendag new Epilepsy CEO

Epilepsy WA has appointed Emma Buitendag to the role of chief executive. Mrs  Buitendag has worked in the not-for-profit sector for 15 years, including as director of philanthropy for Alzheimer’s Australia WA, and in management roles with Paradise Kids Brisbane, Cancer Council Queensland, and Epilepsy Queensland. She is also a director of the Young Australia League.

WA resources execs join FWC

Fortescue Metals Group human resources and employee relations manager Abbey Beaumont, and former Woodside Energy vice-president, human resources, Ian Masson are two of three new deputy presidents appointed to the Fair Work Commission. Ms  Beaumont has been with Fortescue since 2012, following previous legal roles. Mr  Masson most recently served as industrial relations manager for ExxonMobil, following 11 years with Woodside.

Four to Lifeline

Lifeline WA has appointed four board members: Vince Garreffa is a director of Mondo Di Carne; Nadia Mitsopoulos is a journalist who currently serves as producer, mornings, at 720 ABC Perth; David Pringle is managing director of Pindan Capital; and Beau Waters is a former vice-captain of the West Coast Eagles and now works in residential sales and project marketing at Space Real Estate.

Senses loses CEO

Debbie Karasinski has resigned as chief executive of disability services provider Senses Australia. Ms  Karasinski will leave the organisation in November, after 16 years at the helm. She previously served as chief executive of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of WA for a decade. Ms  Karasinski is also inaugural chair of the WA Child and Adolescent Health Service.

Smith moves to Citadel-MAGNUS

Citadel-MAGNUS has appointed Tamatha Smith a director in the firm’s Perth office. Ms  Smith was previously chief of staff to Albert Jacob in his former role as environment and heritage minister. She has held prior external affairs and government relations roles for Purple, Macmahon Holdings, and PPR.

WACA fills casual posts

The Western Australian Cricket Association has appointed Terry Waldron and Eva Skira to its board. They fill the casual vacancies created by the departures of Lachlan Henderson and Kade Harvey. The Nationals WA member for Wagin for 16 years, Mr  Waldron served as a minister in the sport and recreation, and racing and gaming portfolios. In 2007, he was named a member of the WA country cricket team of the century. Ms  Skira is the former chair of Water Corporation. She currently serves as chair of St John of God Health Care’s board of trustees, and as a director of RCR Tomlinson and Macmahon Holdings.

Crisford to chair Legal Aid Western Australia

The state government has appointed Jane Crisford as the first female chair of the Legal Aid Commission of Western Australia. Ms  Crisford is a former judge of the District Court of WA and of the Family Court of Australia. Prior to her judicial roles, she was president of the Equal Opportunity Commission.

Calibre promotions

Calibre Group has appointed George Nuich executive general manager, west and Asia. Mr  Nuich was previously executive general manager, projects. Matt Coleman has been appointed executive general manager, technologies, advisory and innovation. Executive general manager Calibre Consulting, Wayne Edgeloe, has been appointed urban development leader for Calibre Group.

Other appointments

303MullenLowe Mediahub has appointed Sasha Neame Perth digital marketing director. Ms  Neame was previously digital media specialist at Longtail. She has past digital experience serving with companies such as PHD, Starcom Mediavest, and Mitchell Communications Group.

Valenti Lawyers has appointed Matthew Noonan-Crowe a partner of the firm. Mr  Noonan-Crowe has been with Valenti since 2005, and has headed the firm’s commercial litigation team since 2011.

Irdi Legal has appointed Tim Mason and Sarah Ninkov as senior lawyers. Mr  Mason is a former partner of Jackson McDonald and will work in the litigation team, acting on matters relating to the Catholic Church. Ms  Ninkov joins as a senior precedents lawyer. She was previously a knowledge manager with Ashurst.

The Marketing Mix has appointed Matthew Rosich director, client services and strategy. Mr  Rosich was previously general manager of Audience360.
