Orthocell tops Techboard ranking

Regenerative medicine group Orthocell has topped Techboard’s first startup and tech company ranking for the year, following news it had been granted a US patent for its ‘cell factory’ product.
Orthocell is developing products and therapies to assist with repairing musculoskeletal injuries, based on technology originally developed by the University of Western Australia.
Second on the Techboard ranking was Team Ahoy, which held the public launch of its project management software in December.
Listed companies migme, Amcom and Algaetec also featured, as did Recce, which listed on the ASX this month, and VGW Gaming, whch is pursuing a backdoor listing.
Techboard is working to raise the profile of startups in Western Australia and provide a platform for startup and tech investors to discover and explore investment opportunities.
The company was established by Peter van Bruchem and Rafael Kimberley-Bowen, and was featured as a Business News App/Tech Business of the week back in December 2015.
Business News will publish Techboard’s fortnightly ranking of trending startups and tech companies, as well as a selection of announcements made by companies on Techboard’s ASX-style announcements platform.
“We are excited about the possibilities of this partnership with Business News and we hope it will help WA’s startups and tech companies reach a broader audience. It will also help to expose Perth investors to some great WA startup companies and give them an easy way of spotting startups on the rise,” Mr van Bruchem said.
Mr Kimberley-Bowen said the ranking aimed to highlight companies that had been trending in the previous fortnight, whether on social media, in the press or offline.
“Our scoring system incorporates a broad range of metrics, and covers both unlisted startups and ASX-listed tech companies,” he said.
“Looking back at the rankings in 2015 we’ve featured a diverse mix of companies, including some well known to BN readers, but also some lesser known, up-and-coming startups. We’re currently tracking and scoring over 500 local companies, and the list is growing all the time.
"The Techboard ranking has been picked up over east and overseas, and is really helping put Perth’s startup scene on the map.”
The company held its Techboard 2015 event on December 3 last year, and prepared an overall ranking of startups and tech companies, based on its first first rankings.

At the Techboard 2015 event, Business News chief executive Charlie Gunningham hosted a panel session on how startups can raise their profile.
