O’Neill appointed Trinity principal

Trinity College has announced the recruitment of Darren O’Neill as its next principal, succeeding Ivan Banks, who announced his resignation in April and will step down after 12 years at the helm.

Mr O’Neill will begin his new role from the first term of next year.

He is currently the principal of Lumen Christi College, a position he has held since 2013.

Prior to this position, Mr O’Neill served as the vice-principal and deputy headmaster of CBC Fremantle, and as the acting deputy principal of Corpus Christi College.

He is also a senior member of the Mater Christi Parish in Yangebup and holds a masters of religious education from Notre Dame University.

Trinity College is one of four Western Australian schools, along with Aquinas College, Christian Brothers’ College and Edmund Rice College, that form part of Edmund Rice Education Australia’s network of private catholic schools.

Edmund Rice Education Australia executive director Wayne Tinsey congratulated Mr O’Neill on his appointment at the East Perth-based catholic school, which currently has an enrolment of 1,255.

“We look forward to formally welcoming Darren and his family into the Trinity College community later in the year,” Mr Tinsey said.

In April, two other private boys schools, Hale College and Wesley College, also announced principal changes.
