Local builders share in $38m of govt work

The state government has awarded an $11.5 million contract to Universal Constructions for development of the replacement Doubleview Primary School, while other local builders have shared in $26.7 million worth of work.

Universal will build the new Doubleview Primary School, which has a development commitment of $15.4 million and will be home to the International School of Western Australia.

The International School will be relocating from the former City Beach High School site, where the state government is planning to build a new public secondary school in 2018.

The new Doubleview school will include classrooms for 550 students on the 5.7 hectare site.

Construction is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2018 school year.

The state government has allocated $60 million to build the new secondary school in City Beach. However, WA Labor announced earlier this week that it would instead choose a site in the CBD for the new school if elected in the March poll.

Meanwhile, the government has also awarded $26.7 million worth of contracts for other construction work around the state.

Six of those contracts were for refurbishment works at health service facilities in the Wheatbelt.

Devlyn Constructions won a $2 million contract for work at the Bruce Rock Memorial Health Service, while FIRM Construction won a combined $3.3 million worth of work for refurbishments at the Kellerberrin Memorial and Kununoppin health services.

BGC Construction won $3.9 million worth of contracts for similar work at the Narembeen Memorial, Corrigan and Kondinin health services.

Quality Builders won two contracts worth a combined $3.6 million for upgrades at the Yanchep and Exmouth police stations, while Badge Constructions WA won a $7.5 million building services contract for work on the short-stay unit and MRI unit at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Geraldton Building Services & Cabinets won a $3.1 million contract to undertake alteration and refurbishment work at the administration, design and technology, home economics and sports ablution blocks at the Geraldton Senior College, while Wauters Enterprises won a $1.2 million contract for upgrades to the Albany Aquaculture Park.

McCorkell Constructions won a $1.2 million contract to upgrade the lion exhibit at Perth Zoo.
