Leading local businesswomen Sharon Warburton and Vicki Krause have joined the board of the energy provider Western Power, replacing outgoing directors Paul Underwood and Sue Wilson.

Energy Minister Mike Nahan said Ms Krause and Ms Warburton brought a wealth of knowledge from their experience with large Western Australia-based businesses.

Ms Warburton is a non-executive director of iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group, an executive director of strategy at construction giant Brookfield Multiplex, a director of the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, and sits on the board of Curtin Business School. Ms Krause is a non-executive director of Peet, after having served as legal counsel at Wesfarmers for 25 years (seven of those years as chief legal counsel).

Ms Krause’s extensive career with Wesfarmers, combined with her regulatory and commercial expertise, will be an asset to Western Power as it transitions from the Economic Regulation Authority to the Australian Energy Regulator,” Dr Nahan said.

“Mr Warburton has extensive experience in change management and driving leadership and cultural change, which will be beneficial to Western Power as it moves through a business performance review.”

The new appointees will join the recently appointed chairman Colin Beckett and directors Greg Martin and Peter Iancov.

Dr Nahan thanked Mr Underwood and Ms Wilson for their contribution to the Western Power board.
