Kelvin Ryan leaves BGC

After eight years at the helm of the state’s largest home builder Kelvin Ryan has stepped down from his role as BGC Residential chief executive.

BGC executive director Julian Ambrose, who oversees the residential construction side of the group, confirmed to Business News that Mr Ryan had left the business last Friday.

Mr Ambrose who is the step-son of the late Len Buckeridge, founder of BGC, runs the group alongside fellow executive director Sam Buckeridge.

Mr Ambrose said he would act as interim chief executive.

Prior to his position as chief executive, Mr Ryan had also acted as executive general manager of BGC Residential and general manager of Boral in the early 2000s, following stints in human resources management and an early career as a physical education teacher.

BGC is ranked as the largest residential builder in WA, with 2,436 home starts for 2016-17.

Notably BGC was not included in the Housing Industry Association’s latest annual top 100 ranking, as it did not participate in the annual survey; Mr Ambrose said this followed BGC’s withdrawal as a member of the HIA.
