Hospitality highlights Whitford City revamp

A new dining and entertainment precinct will open late next year in the northern suburbs, featuring up to 10 new restaurants and an eight-screen cinema complex.

The precinct is the first stage of redevelopment works at the Scentre Group and GIC-owned Westfield Whitford City, where work is expected to begin early next month.

Scentre Group said the first phase of works would focus on upgrading the hospitality and entertainment offering at the shopping centre, while its wider plan for Whitford City includes 739 apartments along with 27,000 square metres of new retail space.

The existing piazza on the north side of the centre will be transformed under the first stage, while part of the lower level of the mall will be converted into an entertainment precinct.

Westfield’s Scott Greenwood said the precinct would be designed to be a community hub for northern suburbs residents.

“People love to gather in a shared space that has a positive ambience and we believe the mix of food operators and landscaped environment we’ll deliver will provide a genuine destination for our community,” Mr Greenwood said.

The redevelopment is expected to be complete by late next year, with Scentre Group's construction and design division to carry out the works.

Movement at Whitford City follows AMP Capital appointing Brookfield Multiplex to carry out a $600 million redevelopment of Karrinyup Shopping Centre earlier this month.

Brookfield Multiplex expects to start work on that redevelopment next year.

Scentre Group is also in the middle of planning processes for large-scale upgrades at Westfield Innaloo and Westfield Carousel.
