Bentley-based Horizon Power is purchasing gas from Shell to use in some of its power systems across regional Australia under a two-year supply agreement.

Horizon is purchasing up to 4.3 petajoules of gas from Shell to feed regional power systems across the country, which chief executive Stephanie Unwin said would ensure continuation of the company’s services.

“We are very pleased to enter this partnership with Shell, which will provide certainty for our energy generation portfolio, and broaden our supply base, allowing us to maintain reliable and affordable energy for our network customers,” she said in a statement.

Horizon currently delivers power to more than 110,000 homes, communities and businesses globally.

It operates a total 38 power systems, including 32 microgrids, across more than 2.3 million square kilometres – the largest geographical catchment of any power provider in Australia, Horizon says.

The company says it has a number of initiatives under way to develop its renewable energy capability.
