Hammer uncovers new copper/gold zone in Queensland
ASX-listed Hammer Metals has discovered a new zone of copper-gold mineralisation at the Mt Philp Breccia Complex in Queensland’s Mount Isa mining district with rock chip sampling returning up to 4.64 grams per tonne gold and 27.7% copper.
The new area, which has been named Shadow, has been delineated over a 200m strike and is up to 50m wide.
Shadow is located at the northern end of a series of magnetic anomalies within a breccia zone that abuts the Mt Philp hematite deposit to the west and southwest.
The company plans to carry out further geological mapping and surface sampling of the Shadow zone along with ongoing evaluation of the remaining soil geochemical anomalies at the Mt Philp Breccia Complex.
Hammer is also awaiting assay results from the first-phase reverse circulation drilling program at its Bronzewing South gold project in Western Australia.
Chairman Russell Davis said: “The sampling of the Mt Philp Breccia Complex continues to generate new zones of copper and gold mineralisation and supports our contention that the 20 square kilometres of breccia is a favourable host for large tonnage iron oxide copper gold deposits such as Glencore’s Ernest Henry Deposit.”
“Work will continue at both of Hammer’s exciting Mount Isa and Bronzewing South projects for the remainder of the 2019 field season with ongoing news flow from both areas.”
The company’s rock chip sampling of multiple soil geochemical anomalies at Mt Philp has returned elevated copper and gold assays from several prospects including Range View, Mt Philp East and Pelican Waterhole.
Bronzewing South was acquired earlier this year and is adjacent to existing infrastructure, including Echo Resources’ 2 million tonne per annum Bronzewing processing plant, which is currently on care and maintenance.
Despite the prospective location, the project area is relatively underexplored due to transported cover that conceals the geology beneath, which ranges in thickness from 2m to 40m.
