ASX-listed gold hopeful, Great Southern Mining, continues to turn up high-grade gold as it delves deeper into the lower extremities of its historic Cox’s Find gold project about 65km north of Laverton in WA.
Recent diamond and RC drilling campaigns have demonstrated that high-grade gold mineralisation persists at depth and along strike at Cox’s Find. The stand-out intersection from the diamond program was 3.6m going 8.03 grams per tonne gold from 168.95m including 1.0m at 27.5 g/t.
Great Southern highlighted that this hole was drilled 30m down-plunge from the earlier bonanza intersection of 5.65m at 80.0 g/t from 160m including 1.1m at an extraordinary 404.0 g/t with abundant visible gold, and again hit the quartz-rich main lode.
According to the company, the latest diamond intercepts show the Cox’s Find main lode extends down to the lower reaches of the historic workings about 150m below surface. The results indicate large sections of the main lode remain unmined at this level, which previous owners Western Mining Corporation overlooked back in the day.
Meanwhile, the RC program testing the shallower down-plunge and strike extensions of the main lode north and south of the old pit intersected continuity of the mineralised system, with a notable assay of 5m at 5.51 g/t gold from 59m including 2m at 12.5 g/t.
Great Southern also announced the appointment of Sean Gregory as its Chief Executive Officer last week. Gregory was most recently Managing Director at Barra Resources and has also had stints at BHP, Murchison Metals and Mineral Resources.
The newly appointed CEO said: “These results cement a tremendous platform for further exploration and growth at the company’s Cox’s Find project. The team has demonstrated that the bonanza grades reported earlier in the quarter are part of a continuous mineralised system that extends to depth and along strike to the south. It is an exciting time for the company as we are only just beginning to unlock the geological potential of this high-grade gold system.”
WMC produced about 77,000 ounces of gold at a reported head grade of 21.94 g/t from a vein stope operation at Cox’s Find from 1937 to 1942.
Though it is still early days as far as Cox’s Find’s potential mining renaissance is concerned, the mineralised zones Great Southern has been encountering continue to correlate with down-plunge extensions of the Cox’s Find main lode and lateral extensions to the known main lode along strike of the former open pit.
The company has a treasure chest of gold targets to delineate and drill that will go a long way to helping it unlock the geological secrets of an intriguing auriferous system.
