Six construction companies including EMCO Building, Badge Constructions WA and Pindan have secured a combined $102 million worth of work from the state government.

The contracts awarded over the past two months include police stations, training facilities and office fit-outs.

Badge has begun work on the new Ballajura Police Station, which Police Minister Liza Harvey said would accommodate up to 30 officers.

“With this new station, the Ballajura local policing teams will have a greater presence in the community and continue their great work addressing the issues that matter to residents,” Mrs Harvey said.

“This project not only reflects the government’s commitment to law and order for the residents of the Ballajura area, but has been replicated all over WA where new and refurbished stations have been constructed for our police officers.”

It follows news last month that Universal Constructions had broken ground on a new $8 million police station in Mundijong.

In the past 18 months, work has either commenced or been completed at nine police stations across the state.

Meanwhile, the state government has awarded Broad Construction Services a $4.1 million contract for fit-out works on levels one and two of the Workzone Building on Pier Street, which is occupied by the Mental Health Commission.

Pindan was handed a $5.8 million contract to build an Electrical and Instrumentation Centre of Specialisation in Karratha, on the same site that it was contracted to demolish the Walkington Theatre in March last year, while Esperance-based Sime Building Co was given an $8.9 million contract to build a new regional office in Northam for Main Roads WA.

EMCO Building received a $40.6 million contract for work on the fourth stage of the Challenger Institute of Technology in Murdoch, while Perkins Builders has won a $5.2 million contract at the new State Emergency Helicopter Rescue Service South West project in Bunbury.

The South West Emergency Rescue Helicopter Service, WA’s first regional rescue helicopter, is expected to commence its flying missions in the first half of 2016.

It will respond to incidents including motor vehicle accidents, other trauma injuries and, search and rescue missions.

The service is also expected to undertake critical care patient transfers from regional medical facilities to tertiary hospitals.

Firm Construction, meanwhile, has been awarded a $5.1 million contract to carry out construction work at the Perth Core Library expansion project, while Adco Constructions received a $21.3 million contract to build the new Hakea Women’s Remand Focussed Prison.
