Osborne Park-based Georgiou Group has been awarded an $18.7 million contract to construct a privately-funded traffic bridge carrying Great Northern Highway over the Roy Hill rail line, located approximately 25 kilometres south-west of Port Hedland.

The bridge will be funded by iron ore miner Roy Hill Holdings and is expected to be completed by February 2019.

Under the contract, Georgiou will replace the existing level crossing with a single span, 26-metre bridge.

As part of the project there will be a 1.9km realignment of Great Northern Highway, including the installation of new culverts for drainage and tie-ins to the existing alignment.

“Once the bridge has been constructed and the minor realignment of the highway is complete, the existing level crossing will be removed and the 80 km/h speed restriction will be removed,” Main Roads WA said on its website.

Main Roads WA said the bridge and realignment would improve safety and traffic efficiency along the Great Northern Highway.

Today MSP Engineering announced that Georgiou had completed work on both stages of the Tianqi Kwinana Lithium Hydroxide Production Plant under construction at Kwinana.
