GR Engineering Services has been awarded a $23.9 million contract to build a backfill plant at the Fosterville gold mine in Victoria.

Under the contract, GR Engineering will design, procure and construct a paste backfill plant capable of producing 65 cubic metres of paste per hour to fill stopes in the mine.

The scope of works will also include the design of underground reticulation piping.

Work at the site will begin immediately, with completion scheduled for 2019.

“GR Engineering’s team has an excellent track record in the design and construction of paste backfill facilities,” managing director Geoff Jones said.

“We look forward to demonstrating our capability at Fosterville through the safe and successful delivery of this plant.”

The news comes after the company was awarded a $17.9 million contract for a similar project at Saracen Mineral Holdings’ Carosue operations.

GR shares finished off 1.86 per cent at $1.32 each today.
