Engineering firm GHD has secured a contract with the City of Wanneroo to design a second carriageway at the northern end of Marmion Avenue.

GHD will design an 11.5 kilometre second carriageway from Butler Boulevard to Yanchep Beach Road.

The overall project cost is expected to be $23 million, with the value of the design contract unknown, with construction set to begin in December.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the northern corridor was experiencing significant growth.

“We’re pleased to be moving forward with this substantial project that will increase capacity along Marmion Avenue, as well as decrease congestion at intersections and better facilitate the movement of traffic between Yanchep and Butler via the arterial road network,” she said

The design phase project is due for completion in August with the project expected to be finished in January 2021.
