Two former iiNet executives have joined the board of data cable project proponent Trident Subsea Cable. Former iiNet chief executive David Buckingham and former iiNet chief business development officer Greg Bader have both been appointed non-executive directors of Trident, which is planning to build and operate a low latency fibre optic cable between Perth and Singapore.

Mr Buckingham is currently chief financial officer of Navitas, which he joined in November last year following TPG Telecom’s acquisition of iiNet in September. He joined iiNet as chief financial officer in 2008 and served as its chief executive from 2014, when he succeeded Michael Malone in the role. Prior to his time at iiNet, Mr Buckingham was the finance director, business division for UK ISP Virgin Media. Mr Bader, who also left iiNet after its acquisition last year, was promoted to chief business development officer in 2012, after joining the company as chief technology officer in 2003. During this time he was involved in iiNet’s investment in the PPC-1 Sydney-Guam subsea cable.
