Empired wins GovNext work

One of the three prime contractors undertaking the state government’s GovNext ICT infrastructure project has recruited Perth-based IT services provider Empired as a subcontractor under a $15 million deal.

Empired will assist NEC Australia in supplying cloud-based ICT infrastructure as a service to the government over an initial five years, with Empired’s contract coming attached with a further 5-year option.

The service will be provided on a ‘per user’ consumption-based pricing model, and has the potential to reach over 140,000 Western Australian government users based on agency take-up of the GovNext ICT platform.

“We are delighted to have been selected as a key player in providing services with NEC to the WA state government under the GovNext ICT framework,” Empired managing director Russell Baskerville said.

“This award is testament to Empired’s capability and investments in cloud based services.

“Given our ICT capabilities Empired is well placed to provide broader cloud based solutions as the GovNext ICT framework evolves.”

The state government awarded contracts to three international vendors in January, with the Australian subsidiaries of France-based Atos, Japan-based NEC and New Zealand-based Datacom jointly winning the work.

Empired shares were 5.4 per cent higher to 48 cents each at 10am.
