Corporate law firm Gilbert + Tobin has recruited former Rio Tinto Australia managing director Philip Edmands as a new Perth-based partner.
Mr Edmands was previously based in Melbourne and served as Rio’s managing director Australia and general counsel iron ore Australia.
Prior to his 10-year tenure at Rio, Mr Edmands was Perth managing partner at Blake Dawson Waldron, which is now part of the Ashurst group.
He is also a former director of the Business Council of Australia and the Minerals Council of Australia, and was also formerly a lawyer at Clayton Utz.
Along with the recent recruitment of resources and native title litigator Marshall McKenna, Mr Edmands will commence in his new role on June 1.
