EC&M secures $130m of contracts

Local contractor EC&M has announced it has been awarded a series of contracts with a combined value of approximately $130 million, including a joint venture project in New South Wales with West Perth-based CPC Engineering.

The contract with CPC is for a leaching project at Evolution Mining’s Cowal gold operations in NSW, which comprises the installation of an additional leaching circuit designed to recover gold from the flotation tailings stream.

Evolution said it expected to spend between $35 million and $40 million over the next two financial years on the leaching project, with commissioning expected in the early stages of the 2019 financial year.

In addition, EC&M said it had been awarded a power generation and infrastructure contract with the Department of Defence as part of the HMAS Stirling Garden Island upgrade.

The contractor has also secured work at Chinese company Tianqi Lithium’s $400 million processing facility in Kwinana, as reported by Business News in November.

The company will complete electrical and communications work on the WestConnex M4 road tunnel project in Sydney and has locked in an electrical and instrumentation contract at BHP Billiton’s Caval Ridge expansion in Queensland via CPB contractors.

EC&M managing director Simon Higgins highlighted the diversity in the contracts secured by the company.

“The geographic spread and new market entries represented by these contract awards are particularly pleasing as they underline the success of the ECM Group diversity and growth strategy,” he said.

“We feel we are well positioned to capitalise on new opportunities in the current market, having retained capacity and capability through a lean market in recent times.”
