Former BHP Billiton executive Julius Matthys has been appointed chairman of gold miner Doray Minerals, replacing Peter Lester who retired last month to focus on his other business interests.

Mr Matthys also serves on the board of sandalwood producer TFS Corporation as a non-executive director and is a board member of Celebrate WA and council chair of John XXIII College.

Doray managing director Leigh Junk, who started in his role just two weeks ago after the retirement of founding managing director Allan Kelly in November, said Mr Matthys’ global experience and vision would be of significant benefit to the Perth-based miner.

“We are very pleased to have Julius as our new chairman and excited by what he will bring to the role,” Mr Junk said.

Doray shares were 1.1 per cent lower to 43.5 cents each at 10:20am.
