Grain handler and marketer CBH Group has closed its Western Australian network after a male contractor died while carrying out maintenance work at Northampton.

Grain handler and marketer CBH Group has closed its Western Australian network after a male contractor died while carrying out maintenance work at its Northampton site.

The site was shut down immediately and a decision has been taken to close the entire CBH network, which will happen over the next few hours and will reopen tomorrow morning.

CBH said representatives are liaising with the local authorities and the coronor's office to provide the appropiate support.

"This is a tragedy and our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved," CBH said in a statement.

The company said it wanted to take time to allow employees and contractors the opportunity to absorb the information and to refocus on safety.
