Perth-based tech company DTI Group has finalised a $19.1 million contract with manufacturing joint venture Alstom Ubunye to supply passenger information systems for nearly 600 trains in South Africa.

Under the contract, which was announced in June last year, DTI will provide the technology systems for 576 trains, which are set to be built by the JV for delivery to the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa).

Each Prasa train will incorporate lateral, front and internal displays on each carriage.

DTI will manufacture these products in South Africa.

Deliveries for the systems are expected to commence in December and will be supplied over a period of 10 years until 2028.

After an initial ramp-up, DTI is expecting to deliver about 60 trainsets annually.

“This contract is directly linked to the recent research and development investment made by DTI in new and innovative products for the rail industry,” the company said in a statement to the ASX.

“It is a strong endorsement of both DTI’s product development capabilities and its ability to deploy products and solutions to a global market.

“This order continues to reinforce DTI’s growing position in the global rail sector.”

The news comes after DTI recently secured a $5.9 million contract to supply a CCTV surveillance and passenger information system on a fleet of trains in Melbourne.

Shares in DTI were up 4.48 per cent at 7 cents each today.
