Cortona Resources says it is confident of staving off a legal challenge over the environmental and planning approval for its Dargues Reef gold mine at Majors Creek in New South Wales.
The Perth-based miner said objectors had lodged challenges in NSW’s Land and Environment Court against the NSP Planning Minister’s environmental approvals for the project.
The Eurobodalla Shire Council and the NSW Environmental Defender's Office are behind the appeals.
Cortona received NSW environmental and planning approvals for the project on September 8, and also was granted federal approval on September 28.
The company said the measures it had committed to as part of its obligations under those approvals would position it well to defend the legal challenge.
“During the currency of the merit appeal challenge, the company is entitled to continue to rely on the environmental approval to carry out its operations at Dargues Reef,” managing director Peter van der Borgh said in a statement.
Cortona’s stock has slumped today, down 11.5 per cent to trade at 11.5 cents at 10:00AM (WST).
