Cimic wins $225m BHP contract

CIMIC Group has secured a $225 million mining services contract at BHP Billiton Nickel West’s Rocky’s Reward nickel project, located 400 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie.

Under the 34-month contract, Cimic subsidiary Thiess will complete mine planning and engineering, drilling and blasting, mining of overburden and ore, and rehandling services to the Leinster processing facility.

Cimic chief executive Michael Wright said the contract continud a strong relationship with BHP Nickel West.

“We’re pleased to continue our support at Rocky’s Reward, delivering value through our mining expertise and our experience in planning and scheduling mining around existing underground workings,” he said.

The contract incorporates a further cutback at the Rocky’s Reward pit and works at a satellite pit.

Shares in Cimic were off 0.45 per cent at $41.91 each at 130pm AEDT.
