Some of the state's biggest home builders have joined a government panel to deliver design and construction work on the $560 million Social Housing Investment Package.

The builders, which include BGC Residential, Dale Alcock Homes and JWH Group, will create up to 1,200 houses for low-income earners and senior citizens.

Housing Minister Colin Holt said the state government would save time and money through the tenders process by using a panel of builders.

“The panel arrangement will streamline pre-construction and building works and enable more houses to be built in less time,” Mr Holt said in a statement.

“It will also ensure a consistent quality in design and construction, and most importantly, value for money.”

The panel will operate for a two-year period, with two one-year extension options.

“The builders on the panel will be required to provide design and construction services on single houses and grouped (two to 10-unit) dwellings in the Perth metropolitan area,” Mr Holt said.

“Dwellings are required to be completed to ‘ready to move in’ standard and will include all fixtures, fittings, finishes and landscaping.”

The state government's social housing investment package was announced in May and is designed to cut in half the number of seniors and families with children on the priority waitlist by June 30 2017.

Regional social housing projects will be publicly tendered on a case by case basis, with strong preference given to local builders.
